Introducing Randy
I'm Randy Fischer, and I'm thrilled to be your representative for Colorado House District 53, which includes most of Fort Collins west of College Avenue. I'm a native Coloradan and was born and raised here in Fort Collins. My wife, Kathy, and I have lived in the same home in our district for 33 years. Kathy taught high school in Fort Collins for 26 years. I have strong ties to our community and know this district very well.
I attended Poudre School District schools and earned 2 degrees from Colorado State University. As a CSU student, I worked my way through college by helping develop outdoor education programs for Poudre School District. I also drove a school bus, did construction work, and worked in agriculture. In spite of these efforts, given my modest working class background, I might not have earned my engineering degree if it weren't for our excellent Poudre Schools, wonderful teachers, and affordable state-supported higher education.
Since receiving my engineering degree, I've traveled all around the country and the world and now own a small engineering consulting business. When I come home to Fort Collins, I know I live in the best place there is. That's why I am committed to protecting what's great about Colorado and improving the things we can do better. To this end, I have a history of public service:
- Larimer County Rural Land Use Advisory Board
- CSU College of Natural Resources Alumni Board
- Fort Collins Water Board, Storm Drainage Board, Natural Resources Advisory Board
- Legacy Land Trust Board
- Fort Collins City Plan Update Committee
- Poudre School District's Outdoor Education Program
- Adopted Pine Ridge Natural Area
- A leader in local citizen open space initiatives
I ran for this office to help create educational and economic opportunities for other Coloradans as I had. I will stand up for a health care system that works, quality early childhood and K-12 education, affordable higher education, a healthy economy, and stewardship of our natural environment.
I will stand up for the people of District 53 and Colorado, and I will stand up to special interests. I believe Colorado legislators should set the national standard for honesty, integrity, and doing what's right for people. This is what citizens of our district have come to expect.
I know that citizens of House District 53 want a leader with a vision – a vision for a better future, broad prosperity, and effective government. I have that vision. I will lead with both my head and my heart. I consider myself a good listener. I will be open and accessible.
Again, welcome. I encourage your involvement in our district.
Sincerely,
Randy Fischer
